modern angst

What's up with eliminating jobs? I'd like to see clear and extensive financial reports outlining the arch of economic changes as modern efficiencies and conveniences  have replaced peoples jobs. Whole classes of jobs have evaporated while population grows. Who exactly benefits from this?
